Nora, Dance Drama in Southern Thailand (UNESCO)
Nora is a form of dance drama which portrays Buddhist and local legends. Performers sing regional dialects accompanied by musical instruments. They ear colorful costumes, comprising of numerous, finely-crafted components. Choreography stresses flexibility and strength. Knowledge of dance, singing, music, and costumery is passed on within family or from masters to students. Today, Nora is holds cultural and spiritual significance in many communities across Southern Thailand. The art form is easily recognizable one of the most well-known cultural icons of Southern Thailand.
Nora was included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists in 2021.
